(Kaohsiung) The President of the International World Games Association Ron Froehlich announced yesterday: The World Games 2013 will be held in Cali, Colombia. Froehlich officially revealed the decision by the Executive Committee, to grant the hosting rights of the 9th TWG to the 2-million inhabitant city in South Colombia, at a press conference in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, where The World Games 2009 are currently taking place.
“The Games will be held for the first time in South America“. On behalf of the next host, Pascual Guerrero mentioned that TWG2013 will run under the slogan “The World Games for a clean planet.” He also reported about the intention of the organizing committee to pay specific attention to environmental-friendliness. We want “fair play to the environment“, said the President of the Executive Committee of Cali.
Ron Froehlich explained the decision to pick Cali as next host with their enormous experience in organizing sport events. Just recently Cali held National Championships with more than 6,000 participants. The city has furthermore held Pan-American Games and many more international championships and has already got necessary infrastructure and sports venues.
Pascual Guerrero about the decision to bid for TWG2013: “The excitement among the public here in Kaohsiung shows us that we can be looking forward to having the Games in Cali.” According to him, the event offers the people in South America the opportunity to learn about interesting and fascinating sports, and is a chance to push urban development.
The official contract between Cali and the IWGA about hosting the Event shall be signed in September 2009. A Letter of Intent has already been signed during The World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung.
